Editorial: Let’s not turn into Weed City

In an attempt to save money, city council voted in early 2004 to require all property owners to cut their own boulevards in front of their homes. The move saved the city about $50,000 but gave city officials a tremendous headache after people started complaining about the knee-deep grass growing all over the place.

Five years later, the grass is still deep and the chorus of citizen complaints keep growing like a weed.

Mayor Dave Burgess now says he’s fed up with the growing number of residents who refuse to mow the grass boulevards.
