School-aged Yukon girl first in territory to die after getting the H1N1 flu

WHITEHORSE - A school-aged girl has become the first Yukon resident to die after getting the H1N1 flu.

The territory's medical health officer Dr. Brendan Hanley says the girl, who lived in Whitehorse, died Sunday night in a Vancouver hospital.

He says the girl had been suffering from an underlying medical condition in addition to the swine flu.

She was admitted to a Whitehorse hospital last week before being transferred to a pediatric unit in Vancouver.

Information including the girl's age and other health condition has not been released.
