Crown, defence say man charged with kidnapping teen to plead guilty to 6 charges

RED DEER, Alta. - A Crown attorney and defence lawyer have told an Alberta judge that a man charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a teenage girl is expected to plead guilty Tuesday to six charges.

Gerard John Baumgarte is charged with a total of 12 offences, including sexual assault causing bodily harm, unlawful confinement, uttering threats, impersonating a police officer and several firearms offences.

They did not tell the court specifically which charges Baumgarte will plead guilty to.

The two sides are still working out an agreed statement of fact in the case.

Baumgarte was charged after a 16-year-old girl from Penhold, Alta., was allegedly abducted while on her way to a store last February.

Police have said the abductor was dressed as a police officer and was driving a vehicle with flashing blue and red lights.
