More coyotes killed after fatal mauling in Cape Breton Highlands National Park

LOUISBOURG, N.S. - Officials say another two coyotes have been killed in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, including one believed to be involved in the mauling death of a young woman.

Chip Bird of Parks Canada says the two adult males were shot by park officers Wednesday. He says they believe one of them was involved in the mauling because it returned to the exact site of the attack and was exhibiting territorial behaviour and aggression.

Bird says the second animal was shot because it was showing little fear of people and also appeared to be very aggressive.

A 19-year-old folksinger from Toronto, Taylor Mitchell, died late last month after she was attacked on a hiking trail in the park.

Another coyote believe to have attacked her was destroyed just hours after the tragic incident.
