Truck crashes into roadside crowd, killing 19 in northern China

BEIJING - State media has reported that at least 19 people were killed after a truck crashed into a crowd of people on the side of a road in northern China.

The official Xinhua News Agency says the accident in a rural area of Hebei province happened after dusk Thursday when the truck hit another vehicle and then crashed into the crowd.

No reason was given for the accident, which left an additional 13 people in hospital. Road accidents are common in China because of overloaded and unsafe vehicles, poor road conditions and bad driving habits.
