Saskatchewan school locked down after firearm stolen from car outside building

CANDO, Sask. - Police are investigating the theft of a rifle from a veteran's vehicle that resulted in a school lockdown in rural Saskatchewan.

The RCMP say the veteran was giving a Remembrance Day presentation at the school in Cando on Tuesday afternoon when someone broke into his vehicle and stole the gun.

The school was locked down for just under an hour while officers from the Battleford detachment searched the area.

The school was reopened when the firearm was found.

There were 114 children in the school at the time.
