BREAKING NEWS - Oil battery fire near Waskada

The Brandon Sun

RCMP have cordoned off a square-mile area around a fire at an oil battery three kilometres north of Waskada.

A spokeswoman for Houston-based EGO Resources Canada Ltd., formally known as Enron Oil, said there were no injuries when the fire erupted about 10:40 a.m. at one of four collection tanks at the site.

RCMP were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m.

Chief of the Deloraine volunteer fire department, Ken Austin says the fire is now “going under control.”

Shortly before 2 p.m. he said the fire was still smoking.

Earlier an RCMP spokeswoman said the fire department couldn’t get near the flames and the company confirmed that a special oilfield fire unit was on the way from Saskatchewan.

The company spokeswoman added that there are “no safety-related issues that would impact local residents.”
